Push Transcentral Mix 2/5 : Not Bad |
|---|---|---|
| Artist | The Space Brothers | |
| Comments | Push and The Space Brothers in one, what more could you ask for. The pioneers of trance get a collaboration on and it sounds goods. This is slow to get going, although all the right noises are there that sort of promise something nice and funky. The pause starts to lay down that familiar beat and there is some nice work on the background bass. The tune comes in gradually over the beat, but then fades off into some vocals; which kills the tune dead really. There are a few attempts to revive this, but you've already lost the beat; which is a shame. | |

Original Mix 2/5 : Not Bad
|
|---|---|---|
| Artist | Steve Gibbs | |
| Comments | This has a nice fresh sound to it, even though it's now a fairly old tune. Mr Gibbs has spawned some nice creations in the past and this is equal to them all. This, however, doesn't do much in the way of music. There's a nice beat and an equally cool vive going on, but that's about it. Theirs is the usual stop / start stuff, but when the beat picks back up it doesn't change to much. Don't get me wrong, this sounds OK; but very basic. Perhaps it is showing it's age ? | |

Original Mix 2/5 : Not Bad |
|---|---|---|
| Artist | Altitude | |
| Comments | What a strange tune, Starts really eerily, with a weird drum beat that sounding like 'scratching?; as in DJ scratching. Remember ?Nightmare? by Brainbug ?? When this gets going I really like the haunting melody and for its age it still sounds really fresh. The big downside is that this suffers from really bad stop / start syndrome; so much so that it does ruin the track quite a lot. A real shame as this has a massive about of potential. | |

| Title | The Music In You | Original Mix Real
4/5
|
|---|---|---|
| Artist | Monoboy | |
| Comments | This was a track that in my opinion revived the somewhat flagging Perfecto label. From a label that had dominated with some many great tracks to one that seemed to be just churning out any old crap. This was new and fresh, just what it needed. A thumping dance floor number that had all the elements that make a good track. I loved the orchestral bit at the beginning as it really added some passion and then the anthem. Wow. Even now it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. It went on and on and on, which was just superb. This has that real triumphant feel to it, which worked so so well. | |

| Title | Please Save Me | Push Mix Real
3/5 : Good |
|---|---|---|
| Artist | Sunscreem vs. Push | |
| Comments | Quite a combination these 2. Sunscreem on the one hand were the strange group who's haunting vocals had a very strange, but pleasant effect on their tunes. Push were heading down the path of greatness and becoming known for producing great music. This was a bizarre tune in that the vocals were quite mad, yet with the Push beat they sounded really good. I don't know know what they were on when they came up with these lyrics, but it was heavy. Takes a while to get going, but you do eventually get a 137 BPM tune that kicks ass. Typical Push. | |

Original Mix 3/5 : Good |
|---|---|---|
| Artist | Samui | |
| Comments | Being a big fan of ?The Big Blue? I looked forward to hearing this. Although not as good as Blue, this is still a solid dance tune. The main chorus is really catchy, full of nice synth work and a hard beat. Generally a beat in any tune is fairly straightforward, but this does seem to carry the tune that bit more. A good tune. | |

Original Mix 3/5 : Good
|
|---|---|---|
| Artist | Steve Gibbs | |
| Comments | I love the hard sounding bass that pumps out from the beginning; you know what you are in for. This builds up nicely with some simple percussion work and some crazy synth work. Very progressive and progression that works as there are different phases / noises, as it should be; plus an eventual subtle synth and a pleasant sounding rain type noise. This could almost be on the chilled side, but it's a tad too fast. Sounds really nice and for it's time, extremely fresh. Forgot I had this and glad I dug it out again. | |

| Title | What It Feels Like For A Girl | Above & Beyond Mix Real
4/5
|
|---|---|---|
| Artist | Madonna | |
| Comments | When Madonna paired up with Phil Glass her music took a change in direction. Not only did it become more dance orientated, but it broke out of the 'Material Girl' mold. This is a great remix of an OK record. Above & Beyond really funk this up with a great beat and bassline and Madonna's voice in places really complement the track. This is a definate dance floor filler. | |

| Title | Das Glockenspiel | DJ Tiesto Remix Real
3/5 : Good |
|---|---|---|
| Artist | Schiller | |
| Comments | I remember hearing this late one night and getting quite excited because 'that noise' was quite addictive. As usual, the vinyl boys got all the good mixes; whereas CD world was stuck with a half decent Tiesto effort. It was different, which was what made it so good. A simple 136 beat, a glockenspiel and some euphoric wailing vocals. Simple, but effective. My gripe was that it took a while to get going and when it did it wasn't for long enough. Annoying as the vinyl mixes were quite good. | |

Original Mix 3/5 : Good |
|---|---|---|
| Artist | Altitude | |
| Comments | I'm quite a fan of Altitude as they generally deliver solid stuff. This is another one of those outings, good and solid; but nothing special. Very simple and ?old? sound beat which just moves along at a steady pace with a very small bit of snyth work over the top. In places this is added to which adds well to the whole effect and sound. Reminds me of Caf? del Mar a lot this tune as it has that feel to it. This was a great tune so I like it when I'm reminded of it. This works well for me and is played quite a bit. Nice tune to slow down to. | |

| Title | Sleepless | Technic Mix Real
4/5
|
|---|---|---|
| Artist | Meo | |
| Comments | This was a dance floor killer. This did what you wanted. Had a vicious beat that had a really cool intro to the main chorus. You were then treated to a harder beat with a reverberating synth all over the place to accompany the whole thing. This worked really well and was one of my faves at the time. First outing for Meo and unfortunately there was only one more. Great club tune that would do well by today's standards. | |

| Title | Tell Me Why | Club Mix Real
4/5
|
|---|---|---|
| Artist | Paul Van Dyk | |
| Comments | This was such a smooth tune, sorry, this is such a smooth tune. Lots of different versions of this, but this one was by far the best. Featuring the awesome vocals of St Etienne this delivered a real early morning dance classic. Very typical 137 BPM PVD beat and then the haunting vocals just complemented such a wonderful tune. One of my fave PVD tunes if not just for it's mellowness. | |
| Label | Deviant : Released April 2000 |
| Title | Liquid Audio | Original Mix Real
3/5 : Good |
|---|---|---|
| Artist | Hal Stucker | |
| Comments | 'Citizens' was a great tune and this is a worthy follow up. Bounces along quite nicely with a catchy little melody. The beat is nice and in places there is a nice effect that sounds like it's changing tempo. Not an absolute dance floor stormer, but a nice track to mix it up with. | |
| Label | Eve Nova : Released April 2000 |
| Title | Phuturistic | Original Mix Real
3/5 : Good |
|---|---|---|
| Artist | Earthbound | |
| Comments | When this came out, it had a nice fusion of electronic and trance music, topped withy a strange echo box voice. Has a hard and furious 136 BPM track and all the right ingredients to make a good tune. Is a bit samey and does struggle to break the mould and the continuous echo lyrics can get a bit annoying. That said, I remember dancing to this one and enjoying it. | |
| Label | Fluid Records : Released April 2000 |
| Title | Ethnic Prayer | Mea Culpa Remix Real
5/5
|
|---|---|---|
| Artist | Havana | |
| Comments | I still love this record, it is so catchy and just so different. You start out with what sounds like a good house tune and then it all changes with a 'glockenspiel' sound and the whole ambience of the tune sounds like it's funking up. Now I love the old 'Deep Forest' tunes so when it slows down and you get the chanting, well I'm off. Takes a while to go, but I just love the old chanting; especially wrapped around a solid beat. This is till a great tune. | |
