Title Das Glockenspiel DJ Tiesto Remix

3/5 : Good
Artist Schiller
Comments I remember hearing this late one night and getting quite excited because 'that noise' was quite addictive. As usual, the vinyl boys got all the good mixes; whereas CD world was stuck with a half decent Tiesto effort. It was different, which was what made it so good. A simple 136 beat, a glockenspiel and some euphoric wailing vocals. Simple, but effective. My gripe was that it took a while to get going and when it did it wasn't for long enough. Annoying as the vinyl mixes were quite good.

Title What It Feels Like For A Girl Above & Beyond Mix

Artist Madonna
Comments When Madonna paired up with Phil Glass her music took a change in direction. Not only did it become more dance orientated, but it broke out of the 'Material Girl' mold. This is a great remix of an OK record. Above & Beyond really funk this up with a great beat and bassline and Madonna's voice in places really complement the track. This is a definate dance floor filler.

Comments I love the hard sounding bass that pumps out from the beginning; you know what you are in for. This builds up nicely with some simple percussion work and some crazy synth work. Very progressive and progression that works as there are different phases / noises, as it should be; plus an eventual subtle synth and a pleasant sounding rain type noise. This could almost be on the chilled side, but it's a tad too fast. Sounds really nice and for it's time, extremely fresh. Forgot I had this and glad I dug it out again.

Artist Altitude
Comments I'm quite a fan of Altitude as they generally deliver solid stuff. This is another one of those outings, good and solid; but nothing special. Very simple and ?old? sound beat which just moves along at a steady pace with a very small bit of snyth work over the top. In places this is added to which adds well to the whole effect and sound. Reminds me of Caf? del Mar a lot this tune as it has that feel to it. This was a great tune so I like it when I'm reminded of it. This works well for me and is played quite a bit. Nice tune to slow down to.

Comments I still love this record, it is so catchy and just so different. You start out with what sounds like a good house tune and then it all changes with a 'glockenspiel' sound and the whole ambience of the tune sounds like it's funking up. Now I love the old 'Deep Forest' tunes so when it slows down and you get the chanting, well I'm off. Takes a while to go, but I just love the old chanting; especially wrapped around a solid beat. This is till a great tune.

Title Phuturistic Original Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist Earthbound
Comments When this came out, it had a nice fusion of electronic and trance music, topped withy a strange echo box voice. Has a hard and furious 136 BPM track and all the right ingredients to make a good tune. Is a bit samey and does struggle to break the mould and the continuous echo lyrics can get a bit annoying. That said, I remember dancing to this one and enjoying it.

Comments 'Citizens' was a great tune and this is a worthy follow up. Bounces along quite nicely with a catchy little melody. The beat is nice and in places there is a nice effect that sounds like it's changing tempo. Not an absolute dance floor stormer, but a nice track to mix it up with.

Artist Paul Van Dyk
Comments This was such a smooth tune, sorry, this is such a smooth tune. Lots of different versions of this, but this one was by far the best. Featuring the awesome vocals of St Etienne this delivered a real early morning dance classic. Very typical 137 BPM PVD beat and then the haunting vocals just complemented such a wonderful tune. One of my fave PVD tunes if not just for it's mellowness.

Comments This was a dance floor killer. This did what you wanted. Had a vicious beat that had a really cool intro to the main chorus. You were then treated to a harder beat with a reverberating synth all over the place to accompany the whole thing. This worked really well and was one of my faves at the time. First outing for Meo and unfortunately there was only one more. Great club tune that would do well by today's standards.

Comments One of my all time faves. This is just sheer brilliance, there's no word I can think off that describes how I feel when I hear this tune. The build up is great and so misleading about what is to come. Yo get that nice little synth build up that wets the whistle and just tempts you nicely, then it goes all quiet. The operatic singing is a nice taster, before the beat kicks in again and then it;s all rolled together with the most awesome synth. My skin is tingling now just listening to it, brilliant.

Comments Nice pumping happy number. Not too complicated, keeps it nice and simple and I like it. Bit dated by today's standards, but I think it would still go down well. Gets down to business pretty quickly with the main chorus and then breaks with a nice different sound, rather than the usual build up. Saying that the break is rather long winded and takes a while before it gets going again, but it's something that livable. Nice.

Artist Marshall & Oakley
Comments Funky progressive house number that gets my feet taping. Fairly slow at 130 BPM, but sounds much faster. Has a nice build up to the main crescendo which works well. My moan is that the build up is far too long and once it gets going it doesn't last for long enough. Add about another 2 minutes of good stuff as this would be up there. As it is, good for mixing; but lacking in power.

Comments This is just brilliant. A real funky number that fuses in some nice African chanting and throws it around in the mixer and throws out a real explosion around the old ear holes. When I first heard this I went mad and hearing it again I know why. This is a pure trance number that would be great if re-released now. There is nothing about this track that I can fault.

Title Destiny Calls Floor Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist JDS
Comments This had real potential, but just fell short of a really good track. Pacey number at 139 BPM with a hard undertone bassline. When it got going it sounded OK, but a bit out of date. There was then an attempt at a 'Casualty' type sound that to be honest got quite annoying after a while. Shame, as the beat and pace was really good; just a bit irritating.

Artist Delerium
Comments Wow, this is still a great tune now. Without a shadow of doubt the Airscape Remix is the daddy; although the Fade Remix is a very nice chillout tune. Fast, pacey and in your face this one. Not many tunes where vocals really take it up a level, but this works so well. In fact, the vocals in this are probably one of the most powerful that there are, superb. This was / is just a pure trance tune that was an absolute monster on the dance floors. There have been remixes since, but none as good as this.
