Title Angel Dust Original Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist Plastic Boy
Comments With ?Twixt? being one of my all time favourites, I look forward to new tunes from this artist. Firstly this is nice and long, big big plus if the tune works well. This really does start horribly slow ands to be honest I almost turned it off. There's the odd splattering of noises, but nothing else. Fortunately this does eventually come to life with the sort of sound I would expect. In typical fashion there's a good passionate crescendo of sound and then it stops, to the extent I thought it had finished. It then starts again and sounds good. This is crippled by the beginning, but do persevere with it.

Title Let There Be Light Original Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist Fire & Ice
Comments I like the way this one starts, very quick and pacey. You think it's going to stop, but it actually just gears up and gets on with it. Very much a glockenspiel sounding noise, which I really like. Once this is in full flow, it's actually a very pleasant tune. Doesn't do much except deliver a solid sound. No really spine tingling moments, just a nice long anthem. No real stop / starts, which again is a big plus. Fire & Ice are beginning to produce some good stuff, so check this out.

Artist Svenson
Comments This is 2 tracks in one. The beginning is very angelic and peaceful and then wallop, it turns into a 138 BPM monster. This works very well and it is a welcome break from a lot of the monotonous stuff around at present. Shame when it kicks in it is a bit samey, bar the odd different noises here and there Saying that, this is a really great track that i would go mad to in a club. Well worth checking out.

Title Back From Your Past Neo & Farina Remix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist Misja Helsloot
Comments A very frustrating record this one. I only kept with it because I like the remixers Neo & Farina, but this takes an age to get going. The beginning is continually plagued with some bloke singing, who sounds like the fella out of Pet Shop Boys (it's actually Shane 54). These vocals just ruin the whole thing to be honest, they are awful. The only saving grace for this tune is when you get half way through he shuts up and the 137 BPM kicks in with a vengeance. Too much, too late in my opinion. Find a dub and you may just have a top top tune.

Title Para Siempre Original Mix

4/5 niiiccceeeee
Artist Fire & Ice
Comments This is an amazing record. I can only describe the first 5 mins as almost purely ambient with a nice beat here and there. Then it goes into a purely sublime number that just rolls around in the head. Quite beautiful to be honest. I can't quite place the main instrument, I s'pose a piano of sorts would best describe. It has that feel of urgency, yet complete mellowness. Don't score top marks as the beginning does drag a bit and if you don't listen for long enough, you'll miss the good stuff.

Artist Armin van Buuren
Comments Not much this fella does is pants and this isn't. Very happy happy music with a very strong element of that mellow Chicane feel to things. This is a 2am tune when you are feeling a bit knackered and just need a little pick up without going to mad. I actually, for a change, like the vocals in this one as they blend nicely with the whole ambience of the tune. The beat is a strong 138 BPM with some nice work in the background using synths and reverbed voices. Just lacks the real kick in the teeth that makes you want to play it over and over again. Top tune from a top producer.

Artist JX
Comments This to me sounds like a 'rip off' of an old track by Hampshire & Weatherley called 'Breathless'; but it's a pretty good one. Gets straight down to business with a nice moody beginning and some great synths and then bang into the main chorus within 3 minutes. This is a very good tune that is almost perfectly put together. It isn't a full on in your face number, but certainly destined to be a club classic. The whole blend for this just works, including the vocals; which are as ever pointless. Just falls short of a stunner as it just misses out on that 'wow' factor, but a cracking tune.

Artist Matthew Dekay Band
Comments This one almost never got past them critical first few minutes as it starts so badly. Very deceiving. This is a little gem, all be it a bit long winded in places. A progressive house tune that has a nice new taste to it, from an artist who sounds best placed in the 70's. This is a very well compiled tune, that just has the edge over some of the other stuff out there. Very funky and a real toe taper if there ever was one. Just a bit slow on the up, my only moan; certainly worth adding to your collection

Title One Way Home Original Mix

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist New Disco Science Alliance
Comments Very, very progressive this one. In fact, it's sooooo progressive it takes the best part of 5 minutes to get going. As you can imagine, this does let it down somewhat. Shame, as it's a well produced deep and moody little number. This really needs a good remix to cut out all the unnecessary crap and just funk it up.

Title Little Julia Original Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist Stef Vrolijk
Comments Hhhm, this has a nice fresh sound to it; with a touch of tribal almost. This bounces along at 131 BPM, but sounds much much faster. Great bassline and some really nice synth work make this feel very 'spacey'. I s'pose you would have to class this as progressive house, but with a hard edge. Unlike most tunes, this doesn't go all stop / start; it just keeps going. OK, it gets a bit samey; but the artist does try to freshen it up with different noises here and there. Well worth a listen, especially if you fancy a different sound.

Title All That Matters Original Mix

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Funk D'Void
Comments This is a real 'funk' tune. Very hard bassline with a touch of synth work. That's really it, but don't discount this one. It may not be the ultimate club classic, but this really packs a hard punch in the bass department. Loud it will make you shiver. So, if you like your bass; then look no further.
Label Soma : Released February 2004

Title Wanna Be An Angel Art of Trance Remix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist Tekara
Comments Tekara, aka Matt Darey, gets his first outing on the mighty Platipus. If you didn't know different, this isn't the usual stuff you'd expect from Mr Darey This is a much more 'tame' club track that is very strong on the happy happy felling. I'm not a fan of vocal tunes and this doesn't do much to change my mind. The track stops far too often just to hear some bird sing. That said, Art of Trance do put in a really good effort that flows very nicely, even the vocals. Not a classic, but a worthwhile addition to the collection.
Label Platipus : Released February 2004

Artist Hybrid
Comments Hhhhmmmm, Hybrid. Not my usual cup of tea this as the vibes are generally way to heavy for my liking, but this just has something that I like. Really funky beat that sounds like it's constantly changing with some nice 'violin' accompaniment, yes I did say violin. Then out of nowhere the beat changes to a real pucka Electro beat of old, namely by Newcleus of 'Wikki Wikki' fame. The tune then really gets down and I don;t know what it is, but I really like it. The Orb also through a really mad Orb mix as well.
Label Distinct'ive : Released February 2004

Title Take Me To The Clouds Above Extended Mix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist LMC vs. U2
Comments Happy, happy, happy. That just about sums this tune up and I like it. This did very well in the UK charts which isn't surprising as it is just a nice happy tune. Bit slow on the up and the bits in the middle that just don't do a thing are annoying; but once it's going it has a wonderful beat and feel to it. The vocals are awful, but fortunately not too much in the extended version. This isn't a brilliant tune, but I guarantee you will dance to it in the clubs and why not, it's a happy tune !
Label All Around The World : Released February 2004

Title Higher Hiver & Hammer Mix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist Emmar ft Ellie
Comments This is OK, but nothing more. I generally think Hiver and Hammer produce quality tunes, but this is far too commercialized for me. The vocals don't work, just some bird with a high pitched voice blabbering on. The beat is solid, but there's a somewhat annoying tune all over the place. It stops and starts quite a bit, which just adds to the frustration. Find yourself a Dub Mix and it would be much better.
