Title Cloud Nine Original Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist Karanda
Comments As the title might suggest, this is quite a mellow tune; although it does have a good solid beat. Lots of piano and ambience with this one and quite a slow start, doesn't really give you a hint as to where it's going. On the one hand you hope it will pick up, but on the other stay where it is. It kind of does an in between to be honest. You get a really solid bass that becomes the tone of the track, along with our friend the piano. Bit down, but also a happy tune; depending on how you listen to this. It's a nice pleasant sound and one that although I wouldn't expect to hear in a club; towards the end of the night it would be quite welcome.

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Dima Krasnik
Comments This was one of them tunes I really wanted to like due to previous efforts from the artist, it pleases and it doesn't. I like the tech edge to this, doesn't go overboard; but adds a nice change to things. The tune once it is going is however a bit sluggish in making the most of the time it has. I like the ‘wind pipes' that are brought in, a very fresh and original sound. The tune doesn't let rip and dwells on itself and it's slow to get to the melody, which is frustrating. The artist could have done so much more with this; it's almost a lazy effort.

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Adam Lester
Comments I don't generally like artists releasing just one version of a tune and it's a bit like it or not. This survived the cut. Quite a delayed start, but bear with this as it gets better. The melody is very unusual, not the norm; but I like different and this makes a nice change. The tune does come across as a bit depressed, I think it's the piano break and I'm not 100% sure what the message is supposed to be here. For a long tune, there isn't a lot of substance by way of a melody; which is where this falls down. The different approach is good, but there should have been more.

3/5 : Good
Artist Art of Trance
Comments I was so pleased to see the mighty Platipus label resurrected and with a new offering from the equally mighty Art of Trance. This is a deep tune to say the least and one that you are going to like or dislike; I don't see any middle ground. The beats are great, deep and with real oomph. I like the dark aspect of this tune, you have to really listen to what is going on and it is quite hypnotic in places. Reminds me of some of the early trance/acid in the 90s. This lacks a real melody, which would have been good to give this real meaning; but as it stands a real deep club buster.

Title Renovatio Original Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist Estigma
Comments Happy happy sound, always good to have that summer feeling; even though the weather has been shit for what seems an eternity. Long build up to the melody, which is OK as it sets the scene for what is coming quite nicely. Once you get there you will have an explosion of sound on your ears, lots of synths all trying their hardest to please you. It works on one level, but not on all. This is a loud tune, which I do often find can get in the way. The artist tries to counter this with a subtle piano synth, but it doesn't quite do it. For a long tune, there was opportunity for two melodies that should have been taken, to really show some diversity. Lots of potential in this tune and still a nice happy summer sound.

Title Azure Running Man Edit

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist Running Man & Ahmed Romel
Comments Another label I am beginning to pay some real attention to, good quality music. This is a very typical Running Man track, nothing too hugely different to what he normally does. There is lots of feeling and passion in the synth work and the main melody has a good club feel to it. There is a second melody with some extra sound in it, which adds to the whole production very nicely. This is lacking in that it is nothing new. The artist should concentrate on quality and not quantity of release. That aside, a notable sound from a notable label.

Title Timeline Original Mix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist Suncatcher & Mihai M pres. Starshifters
Comments This is a very catchy tune; it has a ‘plip plop' sound in the background that is great. Has a good start, lots of energy; but not giving too much away apart from an intro with the man synth line for the tune. As is becoming the norm, long build up to the anthem; which does and doesn't work. I like the anthem here as it has a nice summer feel to it, but doesn't get too cheesy. This sticks to what it believes best and I admire that. The anthem is nice and long and doesn't change too much, but what you have is very catchy and pleasing on the ears. I would have liked a bit more of this as it left me feeling a bit empty, but still one to have a listen to.

Title Last Departures Original Mix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist The Noble Six
Comments I thought a Noble was a car, so perhaps the artist likes cars. It is that time of year, where the sound is very much aimed at summer; always nice to hear. This has a good beat and a very prolonged (and passionate) build-up. Lots of good sounds at varying pitches and all put together in a nice ensemble of sound. The anthem is on the epic edge of trance, lots of piercing sounds that really hammer home what the artist wants. They are not overbearing, so you can hear the rest of the tune; which is where this tune wins. Where it doesn't is that there was a great opportunity to really take this up a level with an extra melody, which was missed. I still like what I have.

Title Beautiful Morning Original 2005 Mix

Artist Winkee
Comments I remember this back in 2005 and forgot what a monster tune it is. Forget all the remixes, go for the original; no question. This gets going with a wonderful ‘new age acid' sound, which just works so well. You then get the beat and the general idea of what is coming, but don't count on it. The build-up is the most teasing in a long time, it's bloody beautiful. Has a very catchy Chicane feel to it. You then get the melody, please don't cum in your pants. This is just sublime at every level and more. I can't believe a tune of 7 years ago is probably one of the best I've heard in 2012; I am so happy. You can't play this loud enough, it's that good. This is how it is and should be done, I am so happy. The artists didn't do many tunes, but what he did just worked. I am so happy.

Title Enceladus Astronomers Retake

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist Akira Kayosa & Hugh Tolland
Comments An interesting tune this. Has a very good trance club feel to it, lots of energy through various synths and sounds. There's a good build-up to the main melody, doesn't slow down too much and therefore keeps things moving. The melody is OK, nothing spectacular; could have been better; but could also have been worse. You get a good feeling for things, it doesn't mix things up enough; stays very constant. I thought there was more as the ending is very long, but alas no. That all said, a nice tune with some nice sounds within.
Label Mondo Records : Released April 2012

Title Ode to the Ocean Original Mix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

5/5 niiiccceeeee
Artist Protoculture
Comments Tough call as both tunes on this EP are very good in their own right, I plumed for this one as I like the drum beat more. Good solid start for this, lots of beats and then a nice slow down; but with purpose. You get a nice synth building up and you feel that the sound is going to be good. The tension builds and you know it's going to be good and it is. This has a feeling of urgency about it and this along with all the other sound make this a really good sound on your ears. It keeps building adding subtle sounds here and there, but it doesn't really matter as you'll be hooked. My only gripe, I wanted more of it. Cobalt is as good, so highly recommended.

Title Seize the Day Original Mix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist ReOrder feat. Stine Grove
Comments I went for this as I love the vocals of Stine Grove, the best there is at the moment. This has a haunting feeling about it, but that is to compliment the vocals. You don't get the real sound until you are a good few minutes in and to be honest it was a nice surprise as I wasn't expecting it. The melody is bouncy and the vocals work well on top of things. There is a nice piano break added into the mix to freshen things up, works well. The vocals are towards the end and they are not dominant in the tune, just when needed. As a vocal track, most enjoyable.

Title Heavenly Original Mix

4/5 niiiccceeeee
Artist Terry Da Libra
Comments For a tune that runs at 128BPM, it sounds a lot pacier. Has a nice mellow feel to things this, but just enough to keep it serious. You get a nice melody early on, before the slowdown which was a nice treat. Things then go all piano, with some nice sounds in the background. The ambience is definitely building up at this point and you get a more dominant synth quite quickly thereafter. The artist certainly didn't want things slow for too long and it works really well. The melody then comes back in, but with all the new sounds and energy. This lasts for quite a while, another pleasant surprise. I like this, nice feeling throughout and some good sound work.
Label Enhanced Progressive : Released April 2012

Title Always Together Feather Mix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist Mark Nails
Comments This is a very simple song. A good beat, catchy synth line and some extras here and there. This isn't going to set the place on fire, but it will warm it up quite nicely. I like the subtle ‘vocals' in places, just to keep the track swinging. The synths are very crisp and to the point and with the flowing beat it has a really nice happy sound. That's all I will say on the subject.
Label Perceptive Recordings : Released April 2012

Title White Swans Original Mix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

4/5 niiiccceeeee
Artist Sergey Nevone
Comments At 139 BPM this is a lot faster than it sounds. OK, it only sounds a little slower; but I like the fact that it isn't all out banging. It does all come back down to earth with almost a classical piano composition, which compared to the start is so other end of the stick; it's quite a good idea actually. Not sure how it would go down in a club though. Normal service is soon resumed and you get a real killer beat, lots of passionate synths and a much faster feel than the beginning. This has all the high end synths, again classical in their sound; but working well together. The second half of this tune is really good, it comes together really nicely. Not too much noise, just right so you can appreciate what you are listening to. It's also nice and long, so plenty of time to absorb. Very nice and different.
