Comments I always want tunes on Pulsar to go well and lately I've felt they have drifted away from the good stuff of late last and early this year. When I first put this on, I thought finally something good. It starts so well, but it doesn't maintain it throughout. There are male vocals here, which I often prefer to female and in this instance I am split. They are OK and don't necessarily ruin the tune, but they don't help either. I like the piano break in the middle and the ambience created around it and its here that the vocals actually work best. The melody works well in this, quite a contract to the rest of the tune. The artist lays down a nice beat, lots of good sounds and some real feeling and it's this that saves the tune from oblivion. The melody should have been longer to compensate, but all round an OK to good tune and gets my benefit of the doubt.

Comments Two artists who generally produce good tunes, so I was interested to see what this would be like. I will admit to being a bit split. I like the deep(ish) pacey feel, the energy that drives the tune along and the general production of the sounds within. The melody is too short when it was actually going quite well, especially with the late addition of the piano. The build-up takes too long for what you get and by the time you are really enjoying this it will end. One half of me says it works OK and the other doesn't, today it's the other.

Comments Previous track from this artist was good, so lots of hopes on this one; not disappointed. What I like form this artist is the pounding undertone of his music, lots of depth and real meaning. This has a nice vibe, those deep beats; plus the obligatory synths to move things along. The melody here is nice and long, although it does get a bit complicated and overly noisy; which let this down slightly. In terms of a nice club tune, here it is.

Artist Oliver Smith
Comments This has grown on me as first time I played it was far too heavy on the sound, but it does mellow as it progresses. To a point, it mellows too much and is in complete contrast to the start. The melody gets that heavy sound back, along with a purposeful beat which does give this track quite a lot of energy. I like the synths in the background, just loud enough to hear and make that all important difference. There's not a lot more going on and this is literally what you hear is what yo get. The second half of the melody does get a much louder synth which adds nicely to the feel of things. Worth listening and persevering to as there is a good tune here.

Comments This is a deep tune, in-line with what the label is called; easy really. I have to say Perceptive as a label is growing on me, so watch this space. Very slow and progressive start, sounds very much like an early morning chorus of sounds; this builds nicely. The melody kicks in and it's about right in terms of it loudness. Simple beat, with a simple synth; but lots of energy behind it really driving it along. It isn't going to set your ears on fire, but if played at the right time it may well do. A well-produced progressive tune, nice on the way to work in the early hours.

Comments I like the funky feeling to this, I think it's the way the beat reverbs around; sounds nice. As the tune progresses, I do get a bit tired of it. Very samey throughout, although the ‘Blue Monday' feel underneath works well. This is very much a tune that starts how it finishes, there is no extra noise in the middle; it's what you hear is what you get. I do sometimes like this and there is something about this that I do like, but its repetitiveness is a bit too much.

Comments 5 mixes to choose from, so there will be something you like here. This does start with a fair amount of cheese, very wet in places and almost sickly; but persevere. This has a very long build-up, so be prepared for this. When you get there, what you get is a very euphoric and emotional melody, still a bit wet; but much more palatable. I like the energy this creates and the synths work very well, although they are very much on the high pitch front. There a piano break thrown in for good measure, always nice. The long start hinders this tune; the end works well; so cut to the chase if listening.

Artist Athema
Comments This is quite a heavy trancer, quite nice actually. Stats of really heavy going and then slows down to a nice chill moment. Still have lots of feeling from the tune, just not as manic as the start. The melody does come back and after the start it doesn't seem as heavy, lots of nice sounds and an extra twist in the second part make this go down quite nicely. Quite a short tune, which again I think make this all the better. First time for this label, so a welcome start.

Artist Digital X
Comments Quite a short tune, which is a shame as it's quite a good one. I like the piano break early on, reminded me of the tunes from the early 90s. The piano is fairly dominant once it's in full flow, which is a good thing. The tune doesn't really do anything which is what I think would have happened if it had been longer. This is a good intro, it needs more meat and substance. It's nice on the ears, but more needed.

Artist Narayana
Comments Nice start to this; gets off well with a nice beat and feel to things. You soon get the usual slowdown, which works fine in terms of setting the scene. Big synth comes in, dictating where the tune is going and then out of the blue you get a great drum break; really changes the whole feel to the tune. After a while the main breakdown kicks in, lots of movement and passion; flows well. What is missing is any real depth in terms of the length of the breakdown, it doesn't last long enough. You do get the drum break again later on in the tune; but that only marks the end of the tune. Real promise here, but falls a tad short.

Comments I have to say that each time I listen to this it grows on me a bit more. Starts well and gets into a melody quite early on, which is quite an unusual approach; but a very welcome one. The slowdown does come, but after the start it is welcome. The mood is set and you can tell this is going to go a bit tech trance; the sound has that feeling to it. Things get going again, almost identical to the beginning; now with some extra noises in the background. This has a fairly plod along beat, which does slow it down; but the actual vibe of the tune is really nice. Has undertones of old school trance, but then the artist has been around for a while

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Amex & Basil O'Glue
Comments This is a very melodic tune, a bit boring in places as well. Doesn't set the world on fire this, very slow going, very deep and very not doing a lot. I like the synths at the end that actually help the tune a lot, but prior to that there is nothing that really stands out. A simple tune that would be played late on in the night, quite depressing really.

3/5 : Good
Artist Andski & tSefu
Comments This is an interesting tune, not quite trance; but not really house either. Nice subtle beats, in fact nice and subtle throughout. Deep sounds and melodies with very little in terms of different noises and synths, there must be 4 at max. You do get quite drawn into this, but there's no real melody to talk about and although a reasonable length it does seem to end on the quick side. I like this because it is different, but I don't like the lack of real substance throughout. Have a listen, this will be marmite.

Title Desert Rain Original Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist Brian Flinn
Comments This is a 140BPM pounder, not sure if that's bigger than a half pounder. Starts very loud, but doesn't really do a lot. The slowdown introduces a nice melody by way of a piano and some nice background synths, basically bigging up the melody. When this does kick off, it is quite different from the thumping beginning. Still runs hot, but sounds more toned down and this works well. The second half you get the piano back which always adds a nice dimension. Well produced, clean crisp sound, but not earth shattering.
Label Night Vision : Released June 2012

Title Flying Blue Original Mix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist Daniel Kandi & Ferry Tayle
Comments Two artists from quite different ends of the danceometer, with Kandi being quite cheesy and Ferry Tayle not so. Lots of promise at the start, good pace and some nice noise. The slowdown continues in this vein and has all the usual Kandi stuff, which to be honest would worry me. This does launch into quite a nice melody, some energy and passion; but not initially too much substance. The second half adds that bit that was missing and lifts this nicely. A very summery sound, piercing main synth on top of the steady beat. The melody has a good length to it, so if you are getting into things, it will last. A pleasant surprise.
