Title Safe From Harm Extended Mix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist 4 Strings feat. Ellie Lawson
Comments Ok, so you know that a 4 Strings tune is going to be heavy on the vocals; it's just whether the vocals work. You will be pleased to hear that in this instance they do. That all said, bit of a subdued tune. The beat is solid enough, but it doesn't have that pace you would expect from the artist. Perhaps it is this that appeals as in the past I've always been 50/50. So it's different and the main theme does have a nice feel, but past that this is pretty bland. Doesn't have any real desire to deliver, it just plods along; which is a shame. Nice middle bit, the wrapping is a tad on the poor side.

Title On a Good Day (Metropolis) Extended Mix

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Above & Beyond and Gareth Emery pres. Oceanlab
Comments This has been getting a lot of air play lately. I believe it's down to the fact that the artists are well known as the tune is pretty average. It's got a nice beat and an equally nice flute type synth in the background. The problem is that this tune doesn't get off the ground, it keeps threatening to; but doesn't. This, is bloody annoying and lets this down in so many ways. Based on this not sure why this getting all the airplay as it's nothing special in any way. I would have a listen first and it will appeal to some people and it does have the odd good moment, just not enough of them.

Comments A remake of the original that came out in 2007. Some good remixes, but this one in my opinion is the best. I love the acid feel to this, which brings back some great old memories. Almost 2 tunes in one this. The beginning has the nice bouncy acid tune and then it slows down and brings in the 2007 sound. This is then merged with the acid and the outcome works really well. This is a much more mellow take on the original and it's this that I liked. It still has a wonderful trance feel to it, but just adds a bit more ‘floaty feeling'; which works a treat. It's well paced and a good length, all the proportions are right. A really nice tune and the other aren't too bad either.

3/5 : Good
Artist Cressida
Comments I used to love this group, especially back in the ‘old days when they released on the Somatic label. This is quite different to them days, much more precise with the sound. Very slow start, so bear with it for a few mins. You then get a nice twangy synth and quite an un expected drum beat, very reckless in its sound. This is just very different to what I was expecting. A much more trippy sound at the beginning and then it kicks in with a nice vibe and feel. This is pretty much it, with some faint wailing females in the background. Usually I wouldn't be impressed, but this is different and it does actually stand out because of it. It's not a spectacular effort, but a good one none the less.

Comments This has one seriously long build up and it really does tease you. Wait, it is so worth it. This is an epic trance right on the euphoric tip that sounds amazing. I'm tingling now as I type and listen; it is just an orchestra of sound at every level. Good undertone, but the main sound is just awesome and just lifts you up and up. You get 2 minutes of pure pleasure, with a tantalising build up to boot. I can't say much more, I just love this track and you should have a listen and then go hunt it down.

Comments This is a nice mellow tune. Simple beat with equally simple synths. The main chorus has a weird noise thrown in, which sounds nice on top of the rest of the track. There are two bites at the cherry here, both quite close together so as not to lose the vibe. The second one is slightly different, so a bonus on that front. I like this, great early in the morning on the way to work and one to sooth should you be stressed out. I also like the way the tune gets louder in places. The main anthem is very long as well, the tune keeps going at the right pace. Nice.

Title Empty Night Street Daniel Kandi Remix

3/5 : Good
Artist Soundlift
Comments You will guess this is a Daniel Kandi remix without knowing as it has all his traits. Starts well enough and then has the usual dip in tempo before kicking off the main part of the tune. Has a nice feel to it throughout, uplifting and energetic at the same time. Doesn't change too much though. The main rip is nice and long, but not varied enough. What you have is good; it doesn't take it to the next level; when it should. This misses out on a being a solid tune because it doesn't ‘push the envelope' enough. A good tune though and one that I'm sure will appeal to a lot of people.

3/5 : Good
Artist Super8 & Tab feat. Jan Burton
Comments This never got an official release, but fortunately got an unofficial one. OK, it has vocals and they are male vocals at that; but this is quite catchy. I like the way that you think you are going to get a melody and it teases you, bit like (at times) sex! There is just something here that I like; yes it's slow to get going; but the vocals towards the end with the main melody coming in does sound great. The melody is a solid affair, a typical Super8 offering; also has a nice upbeat in the second part. Might not be hugely original, but hey it's a club tune. There are about 6 other mixes of this, so hunt this one down as it's unique.

Title Sora AJ Hutch Remix

3/5 : Good
Artist Space Garden
Comments This starts with a good element of pace, lots of good sounds and a real teasing feel to things. It soon quietens down and the build-up starts, again lots of good sounds and depth. The melody then kicks in with a really nice effect. You get the depth, but with a new dimension of synths that really stand out and knock your senses. The subtle noises in the background really add to this, giving the tune that extra lift. Does die out a bit quick, which is a shame, but the overall feel to this is really nice. If the start had of been a quick better and the ending not so quick, this would have been super special; for now it's just special.

Title Ten Minutes to Midnight Original Club Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist Jer Martin
Comments Nothing hugely different in this. Very much aiming at the euphoric end of trance and to a large degree it succeeds. I like the synth work, does give a nice feeling of night time, raining as well; odd that. A normal type of build up, lots of emotion and then throw a thumping beat into the mix. This also adds a nice underlying synth, which sounds very much like Nalin and Kane. This is all built upon over a few goes, which is nice. The tune changes its sound, but keeps to its roots and that works nicely. The beginning is a tad weak, but the end of this more than makes up for it. Nice.

Title Hidden Message Dan Stone Remix

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Andy Tau
Comments Starts really thumping and then all the noise goes away for an acappella of synth. The rest is different, but not. I like the main sound, very loud and very purposeful. It does drown out the nice piano melody underneath, which if this was deliberate is a real shame. The tune tries to change the piano around, but you struggle to hear it which detracts from the rest of the tune. This is a big deal and it lets this down. What should be an epic sound with a great piano melody is an epic sound drowning out a great piano melody. Shame.

Title Legacy Para X Remix

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Mindstream
Comments Hhmm, another one that tries hard, but doesn't do enough. Nice feel to this, but it's very samey throughout. There are some odd ‘vocals' thrown in to try and spice things up and they kind of work, but not enough. The problem is that the main sound is quite long, which is always good, but long and the same don't always mix well. The beat is strong enough and the idea is strong enough, the delivery just isn't there. Needs a remix to put it right.

Comments This is a tune that deceives from the beginning. It has a very hard beat, but nothing is really laid on top and it's here that you need to be patient. After a while there is a very light synth that hints at something nice coming which is then enhanced with a great build-up to the main melody. The melody really lets rip and changes a few times in tempo and sound, with the last bit adding a flute sound which is a real nice touch. This has a lot of feeling and passion, just a deceptive start. A nice tune and one that has really grown on me.

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Anhken
Comments Quite a slow tune this. Starts very much ‘plip plop' and builds upon in a very slow progressive fashion. There's a noise in the background which at first I thought was a scratch on the vinyl, it isn't and it's bloody annoying. Melodic trance? More like progressive house in its rawest sense. Bit too slow for me, but i do like this first thing in the morning on the train. One for a particular taste I think.

Comments I like the underlying bass in this. It just repeats itself, but it has a really cool deep impact that really hits home. It also a wonderful build up to the main tune. A really simple synth delivers a teasing intro and then let's loose with all the sound you can handle. Great feel to this, lots of purpose about it. It just wants to deliver a sound and it does that. You think the tune is about to fade out and it kicks back in with a vengeance adding some simple sampled vocals that really crank it up a notch. A great tune.
