Title Butterfly Night Breaks Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist The Orange
Comments This is quite an amazing track. It's not a stunner, but it's such a nice tune; plain and simple. Easy going beats and breaks, plus a nice little bit of synth here and there. This is an easy going mellow tune and all of the mixes are really good, all offering slightly different takes on the previous. This is great tune first thing in the morning on the way to work. Nice and easy on the senses, but sufficiently engrossing to get you going. Alternatively, whilst enjoying a cold one in the garden! Every now and then there's a tune that surprises me, this is one of them. Enjoy.

Title Two Full Moons and a Trout Orkedia Remix

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Union Jack
Comments Taken from the ‘Pylon Pigs EP', who could leave out this legendary classic. In my opinion, no one has ever topped the 1993 original in terms of remixes; but with Orkedia I was prepared to have a listen. This does retain the feel of the original, but does lose some of it on the way; probably because it's quite long. It's due to this you have to go about 6 minutes in for the tune to really take off. The newer sound blends nicely with the old and the tempo is spot on. Orkedia gets the feel just right, but it doesn't last for nowhere near long enough; which is a crying shame. I really wanted this to work, but have instead gone back to my original mix.

Comments It's not often it happens, but I actually prefer the vocal version of this over the dub. The vocals work really well on this, very similar to the all time classic ‘Silence' by Delerium. Here the beat just plods along at a nice pace, with the odd piano synth in the background; but it's the tempo of the vocals that lift this up. The melodies are very euphoric with a big trance sound introducing the beginning which is followed up by a great trance noise that just sounds good. Happy is also a good word that springs to mind, good vibe to this and one that I find very uplifting. No real criticism, but just lacks that killer spark.

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Hodel
Comments I've gone a bit cold on this tune since I first heard it and I don't know why. It has a good solid beat and the trance synths are really solid in that you can hear them crystal clear. The build up is where I think I'm struggling as although it's not drawn out it is quite tedious. I find myself thinking ‘hurry up', which is a real shame. The melody is nice, skips along at a nice tempo; but not a huge amount more. This is one that I seem to like on and off, probably depending what mood I'm in. It's not a bad tune, so have a listen and judge for yourself.

Comments You are going to be really hard pressed to pick between this and Part 2. Both are extremely good records, delivering similar sounds with big differences. I just preferred this version as I liked the addition of the piano i the main melody, it worked a treat. The anthem is extremely uplifting and brings everything into one big crescendo of sound and it sounds awesome. It's nothing that you haven't heard before, but it's something you haven't heard in a while. I get excited when I find tunes like this, go buy this.

Comments Can't quite put my finger on this track. Anyway, I like it; but there are bits that really don't sound right. It has a good beat and some very nice subtle synth work, but the main synth is a bit scratchy on the ears, it doesn't fit quite right within the sound. Has a good club feel to it, a tune that you will hear and like and wonder what it was. The melody pumps out a good vibe, but it's a shame for a tune that is over 8 minutes long to only have the one and not a particularly long one at that. As said, I do like this; it just needs a tiny something.

Artist Ali Wilson
Comments Well, a different approach to music. Not sure if this can be called real trance, probably more progressive. This is one of them that is very much dependant on your mood. A simple house type beat, but with a real noise of a synth over the top. The melody, just keeps this all going and it does get quite repetitive and for a long tune it could have done with something different in places. Good for mixing I would add, but whether this could retain a large audience's attention remains to be seen. An interesting attempt, but average in my opinion.

Comments Starts a bit up and down this and takes a few minutes for the tune to really get going. Once it does, you get a nice feel for things. It has a nice piano break in places, usually accompanied but not much but a few noises. It does go a bit downhill in terms of the sound that comes out of the melody; it sounds the theme tune for a hospital soap opera. It just has that odd feel that you've heard it all before. Once the piano kicks in things start to feel more like a club tune, but it's that underlying feeling that gets me with this one. Have a listen, you might even know what soap it is !

Comments This has such a great feeling to it, right from the very off. A fantastic atmospheric feeling with a great synth in the background. The build up, although quite lengthy, really does wet your appetite. The main melody then kicks in and brings everything together in a really nice crescendo of sound. The beat is perfect, the p[itch of all the noises is spot on and the whole feel to it just works. You have probably guessed I really like this and you won't be wrong. A perfect tune for a hot summer's day.

Comments This sounded different when I first heard it and it was one of them I had to go back to a few times. It's not the quickest tune to get going, but it has a different sound to it making a more intriguing number. Once things are up and running, the sound is very samey; but because it's different it's very appealing. Both melodies are quite different, really getting the sound into your brain. There's not a huge amount wrong with this, but it does have that little something. That said, you won't go far wrong with this; a cracking tune.

Comments Been a while since I've liked anything from this artist, which is a shame as the early stuff was great. You will be pleased to know this is certainly an improvement. Nice beat from the off, pounds away nicely; but not too overbearing. Got some good euphoric noises in the background which sound great once the main melody gets going. This is a solid enough sound, one that delivers what you'd expect and a tad more. Shame there's not two melodies as that would have restored my faith in the artist. As it stands, I'll have a listen to his next offering.

Comments Both mixes of this are good and it's difficult to pull them apart. The original is much more banging whereas this version is a tad more on the euphoric side of life. This version is slower to get going, but once the melody does arrive it's a much more funky fresh sound. It's also got a great twangy guitar sound which gives it a good beach / summer feel. Good long melody as well, broken up into two parts with the later that tad more up-tempo. Delivers a fantastic sound and two good mixes offer great value. Well worth the money.

Comments You need to stick with this one as initially you may think it's a vocal tune and it isn't. The build up is a weird one, lots of vocal reverbs and noise and promise of stuff to come. The melody kicks in and I really like it. The vocal works brilliantly along with the subtle piano. The beat doesn't overpower things and the 3 together harmonise really well. Although the melody doesn't change that much, although there are subtle bits here and there; it is nice and long. It also doesn't get boring, you want to hear more as it sounds and it's that that really nails this one for me. A great tune.

Comments This is a great trance tune. This is what it's all about, hands waving in the air and all that stuff. This just delivers a constant beat and then a very euphoric classic trance noise over the top. The ingredients are so simple, yet so effective. It doesn't need to do much else as the sound alone just keeps this going. Yes, there's the odd stop and start, but this just heightens your expectations, this just works. It's not a stunner because it is samey and the end is a bit sudden, but apart from that it's quality.

Comments I got an email recommending I listen to this. Well, it's OK. This is a very atmospheric sound, one that borders on chill out, but with a beat. It is nice and one that sounds good in the early hours or after a hard day in the office. It is quite stop and start, but you kind of expect that. The melody, if you can call it that; is different to the rest of the track. A much more definite synth, although I think it sounds out of sorts and not in keeping with the tune. I like this when my mood suits and I wouldn't expect this to be played at a peak time in a club, more of an end of night tune.
