Title Alive Original Mix

4/5 niiiccceeeee
Artist Nitrous Oxide pres. N20 vs. Cell X
Comments This is a catchy little tune. From a few minutes in you have a very clear understanding of where this tune is going and what you are going to hear. The beat is solid, as you'd expect from the artist, but what happens is that the anthem kicks in and just keeps going. From the start it's there, just not as in the fore and then a little bit later it really ramps up. There's a tad of piano thrown in for good measure and you'd think all was dandy. Alas, it ends too soon; that classic mistake. That aside, I like this as what it delivers is to the point and nice.

3/5 : Good
Artist Aerium & Krivi
Comments This has a really cool mood feeling, quite a deep tune; but quite a cheerful one in the same respect. OK, I know that doesn't make sense, but of you listen to this you'll get my drift. That said, it is quite stop start, which does let it down. Why ? Well, once it is moving it does have a good vibe, all be it not a typical club tune. This delivers a solid and deep sound, which has nice catchy element in places. The main chorus is nice and long, although lacking in any real uptempo. So, if you want a deep happy(ish) tune, look no further; it's certainly different to the norm.

Title Floating World John Huijbers Remix

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Fast Distance & Static Blue
Comments This is a long tune, so slow to get going. The start just about gives you enough to keep you interested, but only just. There are little flashes throughout, but the problem is that there are far too many stops before the good stuff kicks in, which is almost 7 minutes in. Once it does, it's a really nice happy tune. Giving you a simple, but effective sound. Not too heavy on the senses, just nice and mellow. This needs a few minutes chopped out of it as it's too long and too stop start. Real potential none the less.

Title Out of the Sky Original Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist Lange feat. Sarah Howells
Comments I have to admit to being wary of this. Lange 5 years ago was a god, lately since he's gone on techno I don't like what he's been churning out. This still has the tech edge, but much more controlled and more listenable. The vocals are OK, nothing special; although in places they do enhance the tune. The thing that I really like is the pacey electric guitar in the main bits, really adds an extra element and this really does save this tune. It's a good tune, because it's not the usual rubbish; but nowhere near the Lange of old.

Title Another Chance Petibonum Remix

3/5 : Good
Artist Avalon 69
Comments Another tune that suffers from slow start syndrome that turns into a good tune after all. Well, not strictly true this is a mellow tune at best. The beginning does start well, but it's the pause in the middle that sends the tempo the wrong way. Once it's up and running, I like this. Another good example of simple equals effective, which is what this does. Nothing more, just plain old simple. Some tunes I'd argue need that little extra, but for this it just wouldn't sound right. A happy tune.

Title All I Wanted Kai Harmaala Remix

3/5 : Good
Artist Stefan Cambridge
Comments A very typical SC tune. Starts with lots of pace and vocals and after a few minutes settles down into what you'd expect. The main anthem is very much a club tune and the big plus is that it's nice and long. You get through the fist bit and then it starts over straight away and when that's all over the come down section has a nice pace to it to keep you going. The end is actually quite sudden, but as this does get quite frantic it works really well. A solid club tune that it absolutely worth the listen.

Title Revelations Original Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist Andy Tau
Comments This has got a real pounding beat to it. The artist has gone back to basics and produced a good solid hard club tune. There are two good melodies in here, although they are a bit bitty in the way that they take a while to get into full flow. I like the feel to this, it has urgency about it and the tune just flows nicely into your head. It has that annoying catchy tune that you will be humming for days and days and will probably forget where you heard it. One for the clubs and no doubt a big hit.

Title Evolution Stoneface & Terminal Remix

3/5 : Good
Artist Mirco de Govia
Comments I have to admit that this artist's recent stuff doesn't usually get me going, the older tunes were much better. This, however, is a pleasant break from the norm and delivers a good clear sound. The main anthem is nice and solid, nothing special; just a solid sound that's pleasing on the ears. The start again is good, with some nice vocals in places; adding to the whole feel. Where this fails is at the end. It takes so bloody long for the tune to end, whereas another anthem could have been thrown in. So, mixed news here, but as a tune; it's OK.

Title Emotions / Energise / Siren Energise

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist Kerris
Comments Kerris was kind enough to send me his 3 latest tracks, all signed to Trance4M8. Oddly enough, the tune I was excited about, ‘Emotions' (co produced by K90) was probably the worse. It just didn't do it for me, sounded unfinished if I'm honest. ‘Energise' on the other hand is an OK tune. I like the bass line and feel, a bit on the retro side; but the synths then put that right as they are quite fast so the two blend well together. Got a nice catch to it as well, one that you will toe tap to. ‘Siren' is another solid enough tune. Again a nice catchy beat and synth sound. If you listen closely there's whispering in the background, which is really cool; caught me out first time. I like the piano break at the beginning, again just adds something different. It's difficult to make a call between the two as they both have something different to offer. If I have a complaint, they still sound a bit home produced and need hardening up for the commercial market. As an EP though, there's something for everyone.

Title Change Ben Gold Remix

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Mallorca Lee
Comments Ok, here's a great example of how to damage a particularly good record. This starts so brightly, with a solid beat and a very catchy little anthem. There's quite a bit of stop stat that goes on and nothing to indicate where the tune is going. After the first anthem, the tune sounds like it is going to stop and the only way you know it isn't is because it still has 3 minutes to go. The tune just goes flat, so bear with it as there's a second melody that if you didn't know different; wouldn't be there. This needs some help to patch up the gaps and sort the end out.

Title Gaijn Original Mix

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Vodka
Comments Not sure about this tune, very disjointed and not the usual standard I'd expect from the artist. This has a weird Russian feel to it and an almost hardcore beat to it. Sounds very fast, almost confused in places with quite a lot of noise going on at once. The main anthem is quite catchy, with lots of noise (too much at times) and a different feel and vibe. Not totally to my liking, but an OK tune and different if you're bored with the norm.
Label Monoceros Records : Released July 2008

Title Light Years Away Mike Saint Jules Remix

3/5 : Good
Artist Randy Boyer & Eric Tadla
Comments Good twangy feel to this one. Solid beat and a nice synth in the background, not much changes. Normally, this would annoy me; but it does them extra bits in places that just enough to keep me happy. It's not a tune that will blow you away in terms of peak time blow your brains out music, but as a nice calm down tune it works well. The main melody is nice and long and the build up works well. A very average record, but a good one.
Label Istmo Music : Released July 2008

Title Elektra Original Mix

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Super8 & Tab
Comments I have to admit to being a bit off on these guys, sound of late has been very samey and this isn't hugely different. The melody is great, very uplifting and euphoric; exactly what I like. It's the wrapper around it that I really struggle with. It's quite dreary and drab to be honest and doesn't mix well at all. If there was a good remix of this that made the middle bits more interesting, this would be a great tune; as it is, suffers.
Label Anjunabeats : Released July 2008

Title Solar Breath Ferrin & Low Remix

3/5 : Good
Artist Aurosonic
Comments I have to admit to being wary of this artist as most times I'm disappointed, but not today. This has all the right vibes all packaged into quite a nice little number. Bit of a tease to get going as you can feel what's around the corner; it just takes a while to deliver it. This is probably its biggest down fall as just when it starts to get good and funky, it stops for a nice ‘quiet' moment. OK, this does sound good, but initially it is quite out of place. The tune then lets rip and it's a great sound. Very club based and very typical of a lot of stuff out there, but from an artist I'm generally wary of, a great improvement.

Title The Fallen Club Mix

4/5 niiiccceeeee
Artist Estigma & Angel Ace
Comments I liked this from the moment it started, it had something about it; quite a reverent feel. The beginning is very upbeat, nice flowing tune with a touch of synth in the right places. It comes across as a very laid back tune, mellow would be a good word to describe. The tunes then really winds down into a synth experience with things getting very atmospheric. Then, it breaks loose into a nice sound. Nothing ground breaking, just a good sound that changes tempo midway and has a real ‘happy' effect on you. This is a really good tune that delivers a little bit of something different.
