Artist The Thrillseekers pres. Hydra
Comments With The Thrillseekers you can always be guaranteed of a good quality tune and this is one of them. Very epic with that typical twangy trance sound to it. Nice hard beat that doesn't go overboard and a good solid sound. There are two bites at the anthem, both of which are nice and long with the latter slightly snyth enhanced. An all round very good trance number, but what did you expect ?

3/5 : Good
Artist DJ Tiesto
Comments Surprised to see this get a remix, especially after the William Orbit version by Ferry Corsten; which was just sheer brilliance. Of the 4 versions this is probably the best as I feel the others are just way of the mark and too hard for my liking. With this one you would never know what it was in the first 3 minutes, which is what I liked. You then get that oh so familiar chorus, which still makes me tingle all over. The nice thing with this is that both choruses are different, the tune is the same; the wrapping around it is different. This is really good and adds so much to the tune. The actual main theme is a bit lost in that to me it sounds distorted and doesn't really do it justice, especially bearing in mind the Orbit original. Worth getting though.

Artist Armin van Buuren
Comments This to me sounds like a funkier version of Shivers, which is odd. Still, I think this just edges the later, hence why it made it here ! This is horribly slow to get going, although it is quite a melodic tune so I suppose it does get away with it. Once it does let loose this tune really rocks. Very simple beat along with very simple synth work, but it just has that feel of energy about it. You also get two anthems within a short space of time so as not to bore you too much. Armin has a real quality tune here.

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Will Holland pres. Holla
Comments Disappointed with this one. Really slow to get going, almost suicide slow. Really drags along and isn't at all appealing. The main chorus kicks in quite suddenly and just about rescues you from despair. This bit sounds OK, it's just all the wrapping that just doesn't do it. The piano is really annoying and just adds nothing to this. For Will Holland, disappointing.

3/5 : Good
Artist TekTonik
Comments I have really liked both TekTonik remixes previously on Platipus, so it was nice to see them release their own offering. This is a good tune, but nothing major. It sounds very much like Art of Trance, a sound of the past; all be it a very good one. This moves along nicely and has a happy feel to it, but its very samey. There's a nice flute bit at the end which picks this up a bit, but not enough to make this an absolute must. Both mixes sound very similar and hard to see any real differences. A nice tune and one worth listening to before you buy.

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Soren Weile
Comments A good attempt at a decent tune, but nothing overly spectacular. A solid 138 BPM mixed up with some nice emotional sounding synth work. The main chorus has pace and has that feeling of purpose. Doesn't fade out on you when it's moving along, which is nice. Bit of a lame build up which doesn't do this credit. In fact I almost turned it off as it just didn't sound like it was going anywhere. This is an OK tune and worth a listen

Title Perfect Silence E-Craig 212 Remix

1/5 : Poor
Artist Blank & Jones
Comments Something clearly went wrong with this one. I think someone forgot to put the feeling into this, which is bloody awful. Very drab and depressing, doesn't do anything for me at all. Disappointing as Blank & Jones generally produce fairly average stuff, perhaps it was E-Craig who crippled this. Avoid this like the plague, in fact; the plague would probably be better.
Label Gang Go : Released March 2005

Title Love is Blind Club Mix

1/5 : Poor
Artist 4 Strings
Comments This mob are usually solid when it comes to club tunes, but this misses the mark by a clear light year. I don't know what they were smoking when they came up with this, but it's pretty awful. The male vocals don't work at all and it just keeps stopping and starting. This is bloody awful, do not even bother to listen to this.
Label Spinnin' Records : Released March 2005

Title The Example Ronski Speed Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist Phoenixstar
Comments This has a really melodic and enchanting feel to it. The build up uses a somewhat different synth that builds up the tune really well and then launches into a simple, but nice tune. The feel is nice and there are some tingly bits in there, but although the tune itself is long; the core tune isn't. It gets going and you are enjoying it all and it goes and ends on you. That aside, this is still a tune worthy of a listen as it has a good club feel to it and a pumping bass line. It doesn't deviate much from itself, but it works.
Label Surface Recordings : Released March 2005

Title Distant Heartache Original Mix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist Re:Locate
Comments From the off this reminds me of ?Tilt?; whom I still like now. Has a spacey feel to this due to some nice piano work and those waving noises. This then breaks into a very atmospheric tune, sounds very orchestral. This then tails off into some more up-to-date electronica and a firm and funky beat. Unfortunately, like all the tracks I have from Re:Locate it does little else. Where this should be throwing the kitchen sink at you; it just holds back and squirts you with water. It's a good tune, but could be so much more.
Label Galactive : Released March 2005

Title Restricted Motion Original Mix

3/5 : Good
Artist O'Callaghan vs. Kearney
Comments Good hard beat and a nice progressive trance feel to it. Takes a while, but once it gets there the sound works for me and the track sounds good. Well produced and effective. Goes on for long enough and it does alternate the sound quite nicely, which I always like. Either side of the main anthem drags out and should have contained another chorus. This however tries to keep building which does and doesn't work, it depends on what you like. This is a good tune, but do have a listen first.
Label Discover : Released March 2005

Title Call of Tomorrow John O'Callaghan Mix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist Sophie Sugar
Comments I always find it odd to have a female name as the artist, rather than an obscure name. This has a definite O?Callaghan feel to it that hard beat with a touch of progression. I suppose the artist comes in with the girlie wailing, which sounds OK. There's a nice change of beat late on which breaks the tune up, but not much else. Good solid tune that delivers a good solid sound, but you would expect that from the remixer and the label.
Label Galactive : Released March 2005

Title Twisting Free Factoria's DRT Remix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

3/5 : Good
Artist Factoria
Comments You can generally rely on Factoria to produce some good all round tunes and this is no exception to the rule. A nice steady beat and good synth work, plus some unusual wailing sort of add to an eerie atmosphere. The main bit is quite funky and atmospheric. There are some synths in the background that raise the tune up and there is an element of progression in that the tune changes with more things going on. A nice happy club tune.
Label Connected Music : Released March 2005

Title Desert Eagle Smith & Pledger Mix

4/5 niiiccceeeee
Artist Kaste
Comments This is a really nice tune. Has a very simple piano going throughout that is built upon with a good beat and some nice extra noise work. There's also a echoed breathing which in places really lifts this up quite well. There are two themes in this and both are of sufficient length to make you really get into the sound. I can't really fault this track, it has almost everything that I like; plus it's a good length.
Label Anjunabeats : Released March 2005

Title Inertia Armin van Buuren Mix

This text will be replaced by the flash music player.

2/5 : Not Bad
Artist Fragile feat. Alex Lemon
Comments This is a track with real potential, but as it stands it sounds quite dreary from the beginning. No real passion and the vocals just don't help things. Fortunately the beat does kick in eventually, but even then there are no real killer bits or moments that grab your attention. The stopping for the vocals I think is by far the biggest downer, without that this would be a better tune; it slows it down. This is OK, but listen first.
